Have you traveled abroad before? If so, where and why?

I stayed in Colombia for a month over one summer in order to be with family and see my grandparent’s native country. I’ve also been to Hawaii as a family vacation.

Have you studied abroad before? If so, where, when, and for what?

I have not studied abroad before.

Where are you studying abroad this time and why did you choose this location & program?

I am studying abroad in Seville, Spain. I chose this location because it is rich in not only the Andalusian Spaniard culture, but also remnants of the early Moorish culture that once held rule there. The city itself is popular because of the diversity in restaurants, music, and tourist sites, from extravagant plazas to ancient cathedrals. Furthermore, Seville has amazing accessibility to the rest of Spain’s beautiful cities, allowing for affordable and quick weekend trips throughout my time there. My main goal for studying abroad was to increase my fluency in Spanish, and also submerge myself in a foreign environment filled with opportunity to learn and explore- API’s Spanish Language and Humanities program in Seville seemingly satisfies all that.

What are you most looking forward to during your study abroad program? What are you most nervous about?

I look forward to exploring all that my host city has to offer during my semester abroad- I hope to try as many tapas bars and see every monumental structure that my stomach and feet can handle. Despite this, I’m most nervous about how I will acclimate to an entirely new environment and native language, and how much I will miss my friends and family!

What is your favorite subject to photograph (people, cityscapes, landscapes, daily life, etc.) and why?

My favorite thing to photograph would have to be people. Usually, I try and take my photos with people interacting with their environment in a natural way, such as people hiking in the mountain, or a couple kayaking in a lake. However, I feel that having people in my photos make them more intimate and allow viewers to make human connections.

What are some of your interests and hobbies?

Some things I enjoy beyond school is rowing, running, playing beach volleyball, reading, watching movies, hanging out with friends, exploring new places (even as minuscule as trying a new coffee shop), trying new cuisines, and volunteering with children. Music is a big interest of mine, as I not only love listening to a wide variety, from jazz to reggae, but I also play the Alto saxophone, enjoy singing, and watching musical theatre.

If someone were to make a movie about your life, who would you want to play your character?

Although quite generous, I would want Zoë Saldana to play me in a movie- she exemplifies a strong female character in many of her movies, such as “Avatar” to the more recent “Avengers” movies. I would be honored to have anyone play me who can pull off being a green alien and still look admirable.

What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?

My top three things on my bucket list include: Being fluent in Spanish and conversational in French, running at least 10k without stopping, and practicing medicine in a third world country for a period of my life.

Anything else you would like us to know about you?

Despite my major in anthropology, I’m a pre-med student! I hope to better develop cultural competency in US healthcare as a medical professional in the future, both in practice and research.
