Have you traveled abroad before? If so, where and why?
Yes, my family is from the Philippines so I’ve been there many times. From there, I’ve traveled to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. I spent a day in London and a night in Singapore. Also, I’ve been to Canada for a music festival–if that counts.
Have you studied abroad before? If so, where, when, and for what?
No, I haven’t, but I’ve always wanted to.
Where are you studying abroad this time and why did you choose this location & program?
I will be going on a UF exchange at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. It was a semi-random decision, but I knew I wanted to do an exchange program and Glasgow offers cool English Lit classes, art classes through the Glasgow School of Art, and also, Scotland is beautiful and has the most adorable fluffy cows.
What are you most looking forward to during your study abroad program? What are you most nervous about?
I’m most excited about everything being different and new–people, places, accents, food, etc. I’m really looking forward to being able to casually travel to different countries on breaks and weekends. And I’m actually looking forward to traveling alone sometimes and being able to spend as much time wandering though art galleries, taking photos, and sketching scenery as I please. Ironically, I’m also most nervous about going to a place where I know no one, being a shy person around strangers. However, there’s also something exhilarating and opportunistic about the unfamiliar.
What is your favorite subject to photograph (people, cityscapes, landscapes, daily life, etc.) and why?
My favorite subject to photograph is architecture. Whether in the form of cityscapes, or small houses in the countryside, I think buildings can be unexpectedly expressive and I like working with straight lines and angles to create interesting compositions. I’ve always thought it’d be fun to be a real estate photographer.
What are some of your interests and hobbies?
I am interested in creative things–drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, writing, music. I play some piano and guitar and I’m always singing/humming something.
If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
If I were an animal, I’d be a sloth, turtle, or my dog, Kipper. I tend to move very slowly–not just physically, but in general, it takes me a long time to make decisions and complete things, either because I’m absentminded or overthinking. I’m equally inclined to both. I also feel like I relate to these animals because I’m pretty awkward but also soulful and wise, and I’m generally very chill but can easily become nervous.
Anything else you would like us to know about you?
My creative goal for this trip is to keep an illustrated travel journal, and I hope to be able to share some of the pages on this blog!
