Program: UF in India & Nepal – NGOs & Development
Have you traveled abroad before? If so, where and why?
I was actually born abroad in Vung Tau, Vietnam! I’ve also had the opportunity to travel to Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, France and the U.K. in the last few years with my cousins to just explore the world.
Where are you studying abroad this time and why did you choose this location & program?
I’m studying abroad in India and Nepal this summer with UF in India/Nepal. I chose this program because of its uniqueness. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have yet to discover any other study abroad programs at UF that teach about Non Governmental Organizations the way this program does. Not only will we be able to learn about NGOs in countries that rely heavily on them, but we’ll also be able to visit the NGOs and learn from their leaders.
What are you most looking forward to during your study abroad program? What are you most nervous about?
I’m most looking forward to meeting people and getting to know others on this study abroad trip. I’m ready to learn from my peers who I’m going abroad with and also from the people that we are going to meet along the journey, including those who have been impacted by NGO work and the leaders who’s passions have fueled these NGOs. I know that I’ll have an amazing time and I’m so ready to learn, but I’m also nervous about it! This will be my first time traveling abroad alone and I really hope everything goes smoothly. I’m also nervous about offending anyone, especially coming from America where the cultures are so different, but I’ll be sure to remind myself to be open-minded and culturally relativistic.
What are some of your interests and hobbies?
I love trying new food! I’m from Orlando and some say that it’s a rising foodie city, which I totally agree with. I’m one of those people who take pictures of the food before I eat (the camera eats first!). I also love fashion, but you will most likely see me wearing sweats 6 days of the week while I’m studying in Marston. I love plants and nature, although I don’t spend enough time outside. I’m trying to fill my next apartment room with tons of plants, so if you have any suggestions please let me know!
Anything else you would like us to know about you?
I plan on taking a social media detox while on this study abroad, except for this blog of course. I think we all need a digital detox sometimes in order to be more present!
