Have you traveled abroad before? If so, where and why?
I have only left the states once previous to this study abroad. Last summer I spent two weeks with my sister visiting my best friend in Brazil. We traveled from one side of the country to the other, admiring the Iguazu Falls from the Brazilian side and the Argentinian side, meeting my best friend’s family in Sao Paulo, and having both a mountain and beach view from the same spot in Ubatuba. Travelling abroad to see my friend, led to me learning about the Brazilian culture has led to the desire to study abroad. This will be my first study abroad.

Where are you studying abroad this time and why did you choose this location & program?
I will be studying abroad in Galway and Gweedore, Ireland for six weeks. This program’s title is UF in Galway- Youth Development, Irish Culture and Service Learning. I chose Ireland because my family has ties to Ireland and it has always been near the top of the list on places that I would like to visit. More importantly, this study abroad is focused on service learning and working with youth which directly translates to one of my passions; helping youth.

What are you most looking forward to during your study abroad program? What are you most nervous about?
I am both extremely excited and nervous about living in a new place for six weeks and trying to find my way around. I am nervous about how I will respond to the transition and how well acclimated I will be but I am excited to travel with the particular group of individuals I am going with and really apply the knowledge I have learned in my classes. I can’t wait to be submerged into another culture and help within the community and gaining a new perspective on the world.

What are some of your interests and hobbies?
My interests include walking and going to community parks. I also really enjoy taking a few minutes to lay in the grass and soak in the sun. I like taking impromptu trips, spending time with family, and going to the movies. I am also a bit of a nerd, I like Pokémon and my favorite Disney character by far is Stitch.

Anything else you would like us to know about you?
I am the first person in my family to study abroad so I am not sure what to expect but I am ready to begin this journey!
