- What is your year and academic concentration?
I have just finished my freshman year at UF. I am planning on majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Spanish.
- Have you traveled abroad before? If so, where and for what purpose?
I have not travelled abroad a lot; however, I was fortunate enough to explore Italy last summer for ten days with my family. I have also traveled to Peru a few times to visit my mother’s family, but that’s the extent of my international travels so far.
- Have you studied abroad before? If so, where and what did you study?
No, this is my first time.
- Where are you studying abroad and why did you choose to study there?
This summer, I am studying abroad in Valencia, Spain and I could not be more excited! My mother’s entire side of the family is Peruvian, but my mom never taught me Spanish growing up. Because of this, I have always felt awkward and had trouble with the communication barrier between my Latin family and I during visits and reunions. One day I told myself I would become fluent in Spanish so I could communicate and bond with them, and since then it has become my life goal. It has always been a dream of mine to study Spanish in Spain because I want to explore a culture different from my family’s Latin American roots and still improve my Spanish at the same time.
- What are you most looking forward to during your study abroad program?
I most look forward to immersing myself in a completely new and different culture while further practicing and progressing on my goal to become fluent in Spanish.
- What are some of your interests and hobbies?
I enjoy learning about others and embracing new customs. I’m interested in fashion, and I also like to read, go to the beach, and play with dogs!
