“Paris is always a good idea.”

As time passed, the beauty of Paris became more and more visible. Despite how intricate the architecture, I fell in love with the simple things. Being next to the lock bridge was such an easy thing to do, but it made me feel like I was truly in Paris. It provided a real here-and-now moment, an awareness of a raw experience that we often miss. By constantly being so rushed, so unappreciative of the little things, we are unable to really live inside ourselves and our circumstances.

No, it wasn’t the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, or the Louvre that made me feel like I was on another continent, soaking in the city of lights. Instead, it was the passion placed on a single bridge beside an illustrious and eternal river.

The Palace of Versailles

We took a day trip to the stunning Palace of Versailles. My favorite part was seeing the bedroom of Marie Antoinette. I’ve always been interested in her story, and seeing where she lived pre-revolution and beheading was like jumping into a time machine. Everything was  preserved, despite the revolutionaries taking charge of the palace. Check out the film about the life of Marie Antoinette which is directed by Sofia Coppola and stars Kirsten Dunst. It’s what sparked my interest, and it’s a worthwhile watch!

Le Monde

As a journalism major, it was so interesting to see the offices of one of the largest newspapers in France.

The Catacombs de Paris

It is shocking that 6 million people are buried underneath the city. These dark caves are filled with skulls and bones, due to overcrowding in the Parisian cemeteries.

Paris perfectly juxtaposes tender romance with ominous darkness.

It is a remarkably diverse city and undoubtedly a destination that will please any traveler. As Audrey Hepburn once said, “Paris is always a good idea.”
